Dasvidaniya is a Hindi Movie, released some time in November,2008. The movie is about a normal person, a middle class bachelor 'Amar Kaul' who goes to work early in the morning, prepares a things to do list for the day and after working for 10+ hours returns home making sure he has got all his listed things done. A routine visit to a doctor reveals that he has stomach cancer and will be "living" only for next 3 months. He realizes that he has been "dead" all these days and decides to "live the life" for this 3 months.
Each and everyone of us can connect with Amar's character. We see Amar in our daily life. If you haven't, after you are done reading this, and after you watch the movie go and see yourself in front of a mirror and think for a moment.
"Amar is symbolic of all these people who have always wanted to do things but kept them on hold." -(from Dasvidaniya website)
Just think about what do you do every day right from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. And if someone asks you what do you do daily. Most of us would say, "It is a routine life. I go to work, come back late, tired and stressed out, don't have enough time and energy to do other stuff, so I go back to bed. In the weekends I need to take care my house, my car, my laundry, go to a movie/go out with friends." That's not bad. Most us might be doing some things which we would like to do in our lives and most us might be happy with it. I just want everyone of us to think what other things we always wanted to do in our life, but would often neglect/ignore/forget or never really start thinking seriously about doing them.
It can be anything. Let me give you some examples of things what most people would like to do, but have some reasons for not doing them.
"I want to meet/call my friend(s) but didn't get a chance or don't have enough time."
"I wanted to say something to my friend/ someone special, but didn't have the courage in me."
"I want to say how much I love my parents/friends/or someone special, but didn't get a chance or don't have enough time. "
"I had a problem with my friend/or someone special, and we never spoke to each other. I would like to talk to/meet that person, but I can't because I have a ego problem."
"I want to help someone, someone who is in a need. Like orphan kids, people dying with hunger, people who doesn't have basic commodities, physically/mentally challenged people."
If you ask me, I always wanted to all of the above and even more.
"I would like to learn how to play a guitar/piano. I love to dance and would want to learn more."
"I would like to go on a trip to Europe, Paris,...... New York(at least)......"
"I would like to go the gym, loose some weight and try to be fit."
"I love to cook, so I would like to try more and more varieties."
"I would like to go back to India and stay with my parents and take of them."
The list goes on and on.....
It can be anything. It can be as simple as, "going early to work and getting back home early, so that I can sit in my balcony and have a cup of coffee, watching people around and enjoying the cool breeze."
Why don't we start thinking about things we would like/love to do and make a list of it. Make some time out our busy schedule and try to do atleast somethings out of our big list.
I don't want anyone to totally change the way they lead their life. I am nobody to tell you how to lead your life or that you are not happy with your life. After all it is your life, "just think of it". Most of us are gifted with everything we need to live. Every person in this world has problems. Do we really have problems? I don't have any. We are atleast lucky to be still alive.
So why don't we "live the life". "We are not sure if we would have another life. It's now or never"
Note - You might think this article is good/decent/bad or just a piece of crap. But, please do watch the movie(Dasvidaniya) if you can. You might not miss a lot, but you will miss "some-thing" (in your life) if you miss this movie.
Disclaimer - This movie made quite an impact on my mind/thinking. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. If you think that the way I think is wrong, please forgive me.
Extraas - After watching this movie, I actually had the courage to talk to my best friend about a major decision in his life. I always wanted to tell him about this "one thing", but was afraid that I would mess up and he might take it in a wrong way. I was ignoring. But after all he is my friend and I have to make him realize what I think about "it". Now I am very happy that I have atleast tried, and it is upto him to take a decision, because it's his life.
Watched this movie yesterday... I loved it!!!! Inspiring in many ways...
